Description
A small and spooky enamel pin featuring a truly unique creature: the vampire squid. The vampire squid is a type of cephalopod, and can grow up to 12 inches in length. These creatures live in deep waters of 2000 to 3000 feet below the surface, and have been around for over 300 million years. Today, global warming has caused a decline in their population.
Nearly all of the vampire squid’s body is covered in light-producing photophores. This ability to “glow in the dark” allows this creature of the deep to distract other predators, and to attract prey. I wanted my pin design to capture the vampire squid’s glow-in-the-dark superpower. The pin’s enamel is mixed with glow powder, which causes it to light up after having been exposed to sunlight, simulating the vampire squid’s behaviour.
