About the Flower Pot Coral
“Flower Pot Coral” is a nickname for a variety of corals found throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The nickname is applied to species of large polyp stony coral, namely the Goniopora and Alveopora types. The Goniopora corals form branching colonies of polyps with 24 tentacles, which end up looking like flowers attached to a flower pot base. Similarly, Alveopora coral form colonies of polyp with 12 tentacles.
