Drawing Nudibranchs with Arteza Acrylic Markers

Hi friend, and welcome back to my blog! In today’s post I wanted to chat about my recent experience with Arteza’s acrylic markers.

I purchased the pack of 40 colors in their Cyber Monday sale a while back. I think 2022? Yes, 2022.

Flash forwards two years, and I’ve fallen head over heels in love with sketchbook drawing again. So to kickstart my new creative habit, I thought I’d dig out my beautiful set of Arteza markers.

PS: This is a non-gifted review. I love doing gifted reviews too, but this one just happened to be something I purchased because I… Well, I was intrigued!

Trying Acrylic Markers

I drew nudibranchs! For this piece I tested the Arteza acrylic markers and I also used an Arteza notebook. I absolutely loved working with these markers.

As mentioned before, I bought these markers back in 2022, so I was low key worried that they’d gone stale. But my fears were unfounded and they were good as new! Gotta say, I was thoroughly impressed by this.

Back in my high school days when I was learning how to paint, acrylics were my medium of choice. And while recent years have shifted me more towards digital art, I still love to reach for my traditional paints now and again.

Markers vs. Tubes

I’ve used Arteza’s tube acrylics before and I absolutely love them. They’re among my favorite acrylic paints. They’re medium viscosity in my opinion (aka I didn’t look it up but that’s what they felt like in practice). I like that about them. Medium viscosity makes it easy to create gradients, and if you want a solid coat, you won’t have to do many layers before achieving it.

As far as to which is my favorite, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I think the two are different enough to justify buying both (hehe, you’re welcome). They compliment each other quite well, and I can imagine them working nicely together in a sketchbook page. Perhaps I should try this next?

I loved the flow of these acrylic paint markers. Like the tube paints, they’ve got a medium thickness which makes them ideal for gradient work. I imagine I’ll use them a lot for drawing on clay earrings going forwards.

All in all? 10 out of 10. I loved working with them.

Pro tip: don’t throw out the spare tips that come with the pens! I did, and I regret it, because I suspect the packet had some fine tips in there. Don’t quote me on that, though.
