This beginner’s course is designed to give you an introduction on how enamel pins are made, and how you can have them manufactured for your business or event.
You do not need any prior knowledge to follow along with this course, and anything you bring to the table in terms of individual skills and experience will be an added bonus. Art or design skills will help in putting together your design, but no particular skill level is required to understand these fundamentals.
Throughout this course, you will be preparing a production-ready design package that you can send to your enamel pin manufacturer. This design package will include all the information needed for your manufacturer to transform your beautiful design into a beautiful enamel pin.
For this course, I will be designing a simple shark enamel pin. You can design anything you’d like. If you’d like to work with my design, you can download it from the course files folder.
What you will need
To plan your enamel pin from start to finish, you will need four things:
- The sketching medium of your choice. I will be using my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, but you can follow along in any medium you’d like.
- A vector-based software, such as Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator. There are pros and cons to both of these, which I will cover in a second.
- Optional: the Pantone Solid Coated swatch book. These books are expensive, but give you a much better idea of the final colors for your enamel pins. If you’re starting out on a small budget, then I would put buying one of these on hold, and just keeping it in mind for the future.
- And finally, you will need your unique creative mind and ideas. This is what is going to help your enamel pin design stand out as “yours”.
